Manufacturer or trader?
Two kinds of business answer the same enquiry: a factory that presses its own block or coils its own spring unit, and a trading company that buys from several factories and offers the assortment under one invoice. Both are legitimate. What separates them is who holds the specification.
Buying from the manufacturer of a given item means your dimensions, density grade and packing go straight onto a production plan, and a deviation is discussed with the party that can stop the line. The limit is equally clear: that only holds for the items the supplier actually makes.
A trader earns its place by consolidation. When an order spans more material families than any one factory produces, gathering them into a single shipment is a real convenience — and for a buyer who has not yet decided which materials the product needs, a supplier that can offer several is a reasonable first step. The mistake is not buying from a trader; it is buying from a trader while believing you are buying from a factory.
How do you verify a supplier you cannot visit?
Start with the question that costs nothing and separates most claims: which of these products do you make in-house, and which do you buy in? A supplier that answers plainly, naming both lists, has told you where its control ends. A supplier that presents every item as "ours" has told you something as well.
Then ask for the sample to come from the same run the order will come from — and if that is not possible, to be told which run it did come from. A sample cut from a favourable block proves nothing about the next block, and the useful information is often less the sample than how the request is handled.
Third, do not ask whether a declared density grade is true; ask how it is verified. Density is checked by weighing a piece of known dimensions, a check you can repeat at your own goods-in. A supplier that describes the method and accepts re-checking against delivered material is making a claim you can test. One that only repeats the number is not.
How do you write an enquiry that comes back comparable?
Quotations stop being comparable at the first point the enquiry leaves something to be assumed. Six items close most of that gap:
Give dimensions as length × width × thickness with the unit written out, and say whether the figure describes the block or the cut piece. Quantity carries its own unit too — pieces, sheets, metres, cubic metres — because a number without a unit gets converted differently by every supplier answering. A coil count means nothing without the size it is counted across, so state that size alongside it.
Anything you cannot fix yourself, ask to have quoted rather than estimating it. The things only the supplier can state — what a given quantity means on its own line, which packing options apply to which item — belong in the written reply, not in your assumptions.

Packing: how many units fit in the same vehicle?
Foam and spring units are volumetric cargo: a vehicle fills up long before it approaches its weight limit. What governs how much of an order travels at once is therefore the space each unit occupies, not what it weighs.
Roll-packing is what changes that arithmetic. Compressing and rolling a spring unit, or taking foam as a roll instead of flat sheet, cuts the space per piece enough that materially more units fit the same vehicle, and the freight for that vehicle is then divided across more of them. The longer the route, the more that difference decides.
Not every product accepts every packing. Ask item by item which options exist — sheet or roll, pallet or roll-packed, vacuum where the material allows — and ask for them to be set out in the reply rather than assumed. Ask as well how long the goods should be left to recover after unpacking, before anything is measured or cut.
